Quebec, Canada, March 16th, 2006 - Distech Controls, a building automation solutions provider is fast becoming a leader in innovative solutions for the industry, ever focusing on providing unique products that help increase reliability and cost effectiveness. After a popular showing of its new wireless accessories and technology at the AHR Expo 2006, for which Distech Controls obtained the Innovation Honourable Mention in the BAS category, the company has reinforced its commitment to developing wireless applications.
Through partnerships with the leading wireless associations and providers, the ZigBee™ Alliance and EnOcean®, Distech Controls is developing a new line of LONWORKS™ free programmable and configurable controllers capable of communicating with a wide array of wireless sensors and peripherals. The wireless technology will be provided as an application within an open platform, be it LONWORKS, through the LNS™ network or BACnet® with Distech Controls’ EC-Net platform.
“The capacity for our controllers to communicate with wireless peripherals has important implications on cost of set-up and retrofit as well as optimum comfort within multiple applications” said Etienne Veilleux, CEO and President of Distech Controls. “The cost reduction potential of avoiding much of the labour for wiring the sensors and room accessories is astonishing. Also, these wireless devices allow for mobility and relocation, optimized system performance, increased user comfort and are adaptable to evolving floor plans.”
The wireless devices are easy to install, highly adaptable and have no limitations as to the building materials they can be mounted to. Furthermore, the technology selected by Distech Controls allows for battery-less wireless devices, eliminating much of the need for maintenance. The first Distech Controls product to be released with wireless communication capabilities will be its ECC-VAV-W, configurable single duct VAV controller. The controller will be compatible with wireless accessories ranging from temperature sensors and window/door contacts to duct sensors and light switches, allowing a fully integrated HVAC and lighting system to be created without any need for wiring.
“The possibilities of this technology are endless” added Mr.Veilleux “Think of the unlimited applications within office buildings or even mechanical rooms, the amount of time and money saved and the future expandability of the system through the implementation of wireless end devices on an open control system”
