Lyon, France, October 19, 2015 - Distech Controls, an innovation leader in energy management solutions, today announced that the company’s Smart Room Control solution has been selected as Sustainable Product of the Year at the 2015 HVR Awards. This annual competition highlights companies that have identified new environmentally-friendly products and successfully brought them to market.

Selected by an independent judging panel including representation from B&ES, FETA, ICOM and engineering experts, Distech Controls’ Smart Room Control solution is a unified solution for HVAC, Lighting, and Shades/Sunblind control. Allowing occupants to adjust temperature, lighting and shade settings in the room, Distech Controls’ offering strikes a unique balance between personalized comfort and savings. Occupants can achieve their desired level of comfort, while automated sequences allow for improved indoor environmental quality. In addition, automated presence detection and schedules ensure optimized energy efficiency once spaces become unoccupied.

The Smart Room Control solution reduces energy consumption, and enables operational and installation savings. It dramatically reduces energy wastage and missed opportunities for energy savings. To this end, a study at the Hannover University of Applied Sciences and Arts in Germany demonstrated that such a unified room control solution results in savings in excess of 30% on HVAC and up to 60% on lighting. 

In addition, Distech Controls’ Smart Room Control solution holds the potential for increased employee productivity, with studies having shown an increase of up to 20% with appropriate lighting, up to 50% with appropriate temperature settings, and up to 9% when occupants are provided control over their environmental settings.

Finally, the Smart Room Control solution can be integrated with current building management systems, thereby allowing building owners to preserve their existing investment while expanding current capabilities. The Lighting and Shades/Sunblind expansion modules are connected to the extended HVAC controller on a sub-network and can easily be installed near the equipment they control, reducing wiring and installation costs.
